Bulk deletion lets you remove multiple macros from Zendesk in one operation.
Deleted macros are removed from Zendesk, but they remain visible in Macros Reporting and Management as deleted records. This preserves their history and allows them to be reviewed or restored later.
Select macros to delete
- Open Macros Management.
- Find the macros you want to delete.
- Select them using the checkboxes in the table.
- Select Delete in the bulk actions panel at the bottom of the page.
Deleted macros cannot be selected again because their selection checkboxes are disabled.
Review the deletion
After you select Delete, a confirmation window lists all macros included in the operation.
The confirmation window also explains that the selected macros will be permanently deleted from Zendesk.
You cannot exclude individual macros from this confirmation window. To change the selection:
- Select Cancel.
- Update the selected macros in the Management table.
- Select Delete again.
Add a change note
You can enter an optional change note before confirming the deletion.
Use the note to record why the macros are being removed, for example:
- duplicated content;
- outdated workflow;
- completed cleanup project;
- replacement by a newer macro;
- no longer supported process.
The note appears in macro history and can help explain the deletion during a later review or audit.
Confirm the deletion
Review the listed macros carefully, then select Delete.
The selected macros are deleted from Zendesk. The operation counts towards the general trial limit of 20 bulk operations.
There are no additional restrictions specific to bulk deletion.
What happens after deletion
After the operation:
- the macros no longer exist in Zendesk;
- they remain visible in Macros Reporting and Management with a deleted status;
- their existing history remains available;
- the deletion is recorded in macro history;
- the optional change note is retained;
- the deleted macros can be restored later.
Deleting a macro is not the same as deactivating it.
A deactivated macro still exists in Zendesk and can be activated again. A deleted macro is removed from Zendesk and must be restored as a new macro if it is needed again.
Restore a deleted macro
A deleted macro can later be restored from Macros Reporting and Management.
Restoring it:
- creates a new Zendesk macro;
- assigns a new Zendesk macro ID;
- keeps the deleted original visible in Pythia;
- preserves the connection between the deleted original and the restored copy.
Restore does not reactivate the original deleted macro.
Recommended checks before deletion
Before confirming a bulk deletion:
- Review the selected macro count.
- Confirm every macro listed in the confirmation window.
- Check whether deactivation would be safer than deletion.
- Add a change note when the reason may be useful later.
- Confirm that any replacement macros are already available.
- Export the relevant macros first when an external audit or backup is required.
